Tourists throng Cox's Bazar sea beach

COX"s BAZAR, Dec 24: Arrival of tourists on Cox's Bazar beach in the district is continuing to increase, causing accommodation crisis in hotels and motels.

Since December 16, this world's largest sea beach has been basking in the crowing tourists. Three kilometre (km) beach stretch ranging from Kabita Chattar to Kalatali point has been the most crowded.

This beach stretch has been divided into seven areas including Kabita Chattar, Shoibal Chattar, Laboni Chattar, Sea Gul Point, Suganda Point, and Kalatali Point.      

A recent visit found huge crowding across the 3km beach.

Centring the Victory Day, the beach scene had been much crowded.

Assistant In-Charge of Sea Safe Lifeguard Mohammad Shukkur said, tourists started to come  from Dec 15; on Dec 16 and 17, the beach became fully filled up; we hiccupped to provide them security. 

Abul Kasem Sikdar, president of Cox's Bazar Residential Hotel Motel Guest House Owners Association, said, 90 per pent booking of over 5,500 was confirmed; over 1,5 lakh tourists are staying in Cox's Bazar; and, this trend will continue till first week of January.

A tourist and teacher at  Suganda Point from  Dhaka's Mirpur Azmi Faruq said, on the Victory Day leave, he came to Cox's Bazar with his family.

"Marine Drive, Darianagar, Himchhari, stony beach Inani-Paturatek attracted us," he added.

A tourist and government official from Cumilla Rafiqul Huda said, he came to travel Cox's Bazar with some friends; they became pleased of sea travelling. 

A trader Ayas Rashman from Khulna said, he came with his children and will travel for one week in Cox's Bazar. He expressed his desire to see  Dulhazra Safari Park and and Buddhist Palli of Ramu.

General Secretary (GS) of  Cox's Bazar Hotel Resort Owners Association Mukim Khan said, from December 15 tourists started to arrive at a larger scale; over 90 per cent of 5,500 hotels and motels were booked; and this trend will continue till January 3.    

Hossain Islam Bahadur, GS of Sea Cruise Operator Owners Association, said, on December 1, tourists carrying ships have started operations from Cox's Bazar town to St Martin's; eight ships have been permitted; but according to government decision, over 2,000 tourists cannot be brought to the island; so, two or three ships are going to the island.

Senior Assistant Police Superintendent of Tourist Police-Cox's Bazar Zone Abul Kalam said, police are working in three-tier security  for security of tourists; complaint boxes have been set up in different places; and rapid measures are taken about complaints.

Security is ensured in Inani, stony beach of Patuartek, Coral island St Martin's, Himchhari and other spots, he added.
