Khulna-Dhaka train service via Padma Bridge kicks off

The long-awaited Khulna-Dhaka train service  via the Padma Bridge began on Tuesday.

Jahanabad Express left Khulna Railway Station at 6 am and arrived at  9:45 am at Kamalapur Railway Station. 

Passengers can now travel from Dhaka to Khulna in four hours.

The lowest  fare is Tk 445 and the  highest --Tk 1,330.

A Railway Ministry press release said that sale of advance tickets began on  Saturday. 

Tickets can be purchased online as well as station counters.

Railways Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan inaugurated the service at Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Tuesday morning.

"The number of trains on this route will be increased gradually. It may take six months," Bangladesh Railway Director General Afzal Hossain said.

With the launching of Jahanabad Express (Khulna-Dhaka-Khulna) and Ruposhi Bangla Express (Benapole-Dhaka-Benapole) - train journey between the destinations became faster and more efficient.

According to the schedules of the trains, the Jahanabad Express (Train No. 825) departs Khulna at 6 am and arrives in Dhaka at 9 am. On its return journey, Train No. 826 departs Dhaka at 8pm and reaches Khulna at 11:40 pm. 

Along the way, the train stop at Noapara, Singia Junction, Lohagora, Kashiani Junction and Bhanga Junction stations.

Similarly, the Ruposhi Bangla Express (Train No. 828) departs Dhaka at 10:45 am and reaches Benapole at 2:30pm. On the return journey, Train No. 827 departs Benapole at 3:30 pm and arrives in Dhaka at 7:10 pm, with stoppages at Jashore Junction, Narail, Kashiani Junction, and Bhanga Junction.

Both the have 12 coaches, to accommodate 768 passengers, with  weekly breaks on Mondays.
