BUET student killing: Three accused land in jail after remand

Three accused arrested in a case over the killing of BUET student Muhtasim Masud by their private car on 300 feet road at Roopganj in Narayanganj were sent to jail following their remand.

Senior judicial magistrate Md Noor Mohsin directed to send them to jail after they were produced before his court after the remand on Wednesday (December 25).
Narayanganj court police inspector Md Qayyum Khan confirmed about sending the accused to jail. Earlier on Sunday, the court placed three accused on a two-day remand for questioning over the death of BUET student Masud.

The accused are Mubin Al Mamun, and his friends Mirazul Karim and Asif Chowdhury. Of them, Mubin Al Mamun is the son of Brigadier General (Retd) Abdullah Al Mamun. He was driving the car.

At night on December 19 last, a speeding private car rammed a motorcycle stationed near Neela Market (Kuril-Kanchan Road) on Purbachal 300 feet Road, leaving BUET's CSE Department's second year student Mohtasim Masud dead on the spot and injuring two other BUET students -- Amit Saha and Mehedi Hasan.

Following the accident, police found one can of beer and an empty liquor bottle inside the car which has been mentioned in the case statement. The accused also underwent dope tests.

Narayanganj District Civil Surgeon Dr AFM Mashiur Rahman said they found positive results in the blood of two accused in the dope tests. Marijuana and alcohol were detected in the blood of private car driver's Mubin Al Mamu while alcohol was found in the blood of passenger Mirazul Karim.

The slain Muhtasim Masud's father filed a case in connection with the killing. Besides, being the plaintiff, police filed a narcotic case. In the case, the accused were also shown arrested.
