Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained three individuals with 14 gold bars, worth Tk 1.79 crore, in Chuadanga on Wednesday.
The detainees are -- Jakirul Islam, son of Momin Mia, and his brother Rajibul Islam, and Solaiman Hossain, son of Mojibur Rahman from Shyampurpara under Chuadanga's Darshana municipality.
BGB-6 Chuadanga Camp Director Lt Col Saeed Mohammad Jahidur Rahman, said acting on tip-off, a team of BGB from Chuadanga-6 set up a check post at the railway station in the area.
When a passenger train reached the station, BGB members stopped some people for their suspicious behavior but they tried to flee, the BGB director said adding that they chased the suspected individuals and detained them.
Later, 14 gold bars, weighing 1.630 kilogrammes, wrapped in tape from a hidden place were recovered from
Chuadanga Railway Station.
BGB will file a case with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station in this regard.
