LGRD and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan said on Wednesday the interim government will hold election only after reforming all the country's institutions destroyed by the fascist Awami League.
"So many people did not give their lives just only for an election. We have to complete the reforms. The ousted fascist group has been conducting propaganda against the government at home and abroad. When we raised our voice, their voice slowed down. In this situation, we must have to remain united to save our liberty," he said during a view exchange meeting with government officials and workers in Thakurgaon.
Later, he distributed warm winter clothes among the needy people of Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Niplhamari's Jaldhaka area in separate programmes our correspondents from Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Niplhamari's Jaldhaka reported.
Asif Mahmud said, "More than 2,000 people were martyred and over 20,000 people were injured during the recent student movement. The families of the victims are demanding reforms. The interim government has a clear mandate to complete the reforms. You know that the commissions formed by the interim government are running out of time. The commissions will submit proposals, then we will sit with you, the stakeholders, and make reforms and then we will hold the election."
"The people in the northern districts have not seen development they expected. During the previous government, development was focused only on specific areas. But I want to ensure that the importance and allocation for development in the northern districts will be increased by removing area-based disparities," he said.
