Former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam and former Dhaka-7 lawmaker Md Solaiman Salim have been sent to jail following the end of their remand in a case filed over the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim in 2023.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order on Thursday as police produced them before the court after end of their four-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep them in jail.
Earlier, on December 18, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman placed Qamrul and Solaiman on a four-day remand in the case.
Meanwhile, police arrested Advocate Qamrul from a house in the Uttara Sector-12 area on November 18 and Solaiman Salim from Gulshan area on November 14.
According to the case documents, BNP called a rally in Nayapaltan area on October 28, 2023. The then ruling Awami League (AL) convened a counter rally on the same day in the capital.
The AL men with the support of law enforcing agencies attacked the BNP rally, leaving Shamim Mollah killed and many of its leaders and activists injured.
On September 24, a case was filed against 704 people including AL general secretary Obaidul Quader.
