The recently announced convening committee of Dhaka College (DC) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has been labeled a 'pocket committee' by disgruntled leaders and activists of the chapter.
In a press conference at the college auditorium on Thursday, they demanded resignation of the central president and general secretary, holding them responsible for their failure to enter the campus for a long time.
The press conference under the banner of 'Injustice of the Syndicate-based Pocket Committee' was attended by former JCD Joint General Secretary Mehedi Hasan and former Dhaka College Vice Presidents Tajbiul Hasan and Abir Raihan.
They demanded dissolution of the controversial committee.
The leaders claimed that the newly-made convener of the committee had no history of sufferings under the 15-year-long fascist Awami government, with no record of arrest, abuse, or sufferings. They also accused him of collaborating with the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) after August 5.
The activists pointed out that several members of the new committee had no significant records of involvement in student politics.
They alleged that many dedicated activists who had faced multiple cases, torture, and even shootings were excluded from the convening committee.
The disgruntled leaders also raised concerns about corruption, alleging that the new committee was formed under central leadership's distribution of positions, with some members having connections with the banned BCL.
