The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed separate cases against former state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid Bipu and his family members.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed three separate cases against former state minister for power Nasrul Hamid, his wife Seema Hamid and son Zareef Hamid on charges of amassing wealth illegally.
The ACC filed the cases against the trio on charge of allegedly amassing illegal wealth amounting to more than Tk 64 crore.
Of them, Nasrul was sued for reportedly acquiring wealth beyond known income worth Tk 36.37 crore alone.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the development to reporters on Thursday.
The anti-graft watchdog has filed another case against Nasrul's son Zarif Hamid over the alleged acquisition of illegal assets worth Tk 20.87 crore while it filed the other case against Nasrul's wife Seema Hamid on charge of accumulating illicit wealth worth Tk 6.94 crore.
Earlier on August 20, the bank accounts of Nasrul Hamid and his wife was frozen by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).
At the same time, the BFIU instructed the banks to suspend the locker facilities for the members of the families for the next 30 days.
Besides, the banks were asked to suspend the transactions through their privately owned institutional accounts. The BFIU sought an update on the accounts in the next five working days.
