The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) initiated an inquiry against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Hasina and four other members of the Sheikh family over the allegations of misappropriating 60 kathas of government plot at the capital's Purbachal New Town Project.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter on Thursday.

The allegations claim that Sheikh Hasina, through abusing power in collaboration with senior officials of RAJUK, allocated six plots under political considerations using the government's authority under section 13/A.

The plots were allocated in her name as well as in the names of her son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed (Joy), daughter Saima Wazed (Putul), younger sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana's son Radwan Mujib Siddiq (Bobby) and her daughter Azmina Siddiq.

The six allegedly acquired 10-katha plots each secretly and illegally on Road No 203 under Sector 27 at the Diplomatic Zone in Purbachal New City Project with the help of RAJUK high-ups, Akhtar said.

The ACC has decided to look into these allegations, he added.

Earlier, the High Court had formed a three-member committee to investigate the irregularities in the allocation of the 60 kathas in plots illegally allotted in the name of Hasina and her family members in the Purbachal Project of the RAJUK.

The committee, headed by former High Court judge Miftah Uddin Choudhury, was asked to submit its report within four months.
Hasina and her family members reportedly took possession of the plots in 2022 after which the matter was classified as highly confidential.

According to the final allocation letter signed by Naib Ali Sharif, Deputy Director (Estate and Land-3) of RAJUK, the price for a one-katha plot was set at Tk 3 lakh per katha, totalling Tk 30 lakh for a 10-katha plot.

Sheikh Hasina took plot No 9 on Road No 203 in Sector-27 of the proposed diplomatic zone within the Purbachal Project.
The allocation letter in her name was issued on August 3 in 2022.
