At least three labourers were killed and five others were injured when a truck rammed into three-wheeler locally known as ‘Karimon’ parked by the roadside in Rangamati area of Sathia upazila in Pabna district early on Friday.
The deceased were Khokon Islam, 27, son of Altab of Rangamati village of the upazila, Dhoni Pramanik, 50, son of Nazimuddin of Chondoh village, and Rasel Ahmed, 27, son of Sayed of same village.
Saidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sathia police station, said that the accident took place on Santhiya-Madhpur road around 5AM when a Santhia-bound goods-laden truck ran over the workers who were preparing to go to another area to plant onions riding a three-wheeler ‘Korimon’, leaving the three people dead on the spot.
Five others were sent to the Sathia Upazila Health Complex and Pabna General Hospital for treatment.
Police seized the truck and recovered the bodies, the official said adding that legal action is underway in this regard.
