Quoting locals, he said that Sanaullah, elder brother of the victim, had an argument with Hridoy, son of Zahirul Islam of the same area, over a badminton game. At one stage, Hridoy slapped Sanaullah. Sanaullah's elder brother Shafiullah went with a few people to find out about the incident. At one stage of the conversation, 7-8 people led by Hridoy stabbed Shafiullah.

Later on, locals rescued Shafiullah in a seriously injured condition and sent him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Shafiullah dead.

In this regard, Ershad Mia, father of the victim Shafiullah, said, "My son was stabbed to death in a planned manner by Hridoy and his associates. I demand a fair trial in this incident."
