Man hacked dead in Habiganj

A man was hacked to death by rivals over a dispute centering on land at Chunarughat upazila in  Habiganj district on Thursday. 

The incident happened at around 9:00PM at Nicchantapur village in the upazila. 

The deceased was identified as Md Mofil Miah, son of late Abdul Ali Chowdhury, a resident of the area. 

It was learnt that there had been a longstanding dispute between Md Mofil Miah and Shanto Miah over government land. Following this, on Thursday night, the rivals' supporters hacked Mofil indscriminately in Sukunna Tela area, leaving him critically injured. 

Locals rescued him and took him to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex. From there, he was transferred to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early Friday.
