.Sarjis Alam, the chief organiser of the National Citizen Committee (NCC) and General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, on Friday said that multiple political parties will be formed within the next two months, but the NCC will not become a political party.

Instead, it will function as a pressure group, said Sarjis.
He made the remarks at a meeting with the NCC members in Panchagarh on Friday.

Sarjis said, "In future Bangladesh, whichever government comes to power, the NCC will work as a pressure group, holding the government accountable. We will also focus on grooming leadership for the future of Bangladesh."

He further commented on development projects in Bangladesh over the last 16 years under Sheikh Hasina's regime, stating, "In the last 16 years, Sheikh Hasina has shown some visible infrastructure improvements in Bangladesh, but alongside that, she has also committed numerous wrongdoings."

Sarjis said, "Under the fascist regime, everything was about lobbying and influence. We want to start a cleansing campaign; we do not believe in lobbying. In the last 16 years, Sheikh Hasina has made visible developments such as the metro rail, Padma Bridge, expressways, and the Karnaphuli Tunnel. But the development of a country cannot be measured solely by a few infrastructure projects. Building a few such infrastructures is enough for one government term, but over the past three to four terms, these projects have been used as a cover for numerous internal misdeeds. The problem now is that when someone uses these vital infrastructures as a tool, they create an empire of plunder that harms the larger interests of the nation."

He said, "The NCC has taken on responsibility from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Both the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Committee are not political platforms, and they will not be in the future."
