Two people were killed and at least 22 others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Barishal, Chattogram and Jhenidah.
BARISHAL: At least 20 people were injured in a road accident in Gournadi Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The accident took place at Baichkhola of Batajore area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway under the upazila at around 11:30 am.
Quoting locals, Gournadi Fire Service Station Officer Md Bipul Hossain said that two buses of 'Shyamoli Paribahan' and 'SE Paribahan' and a oil-laden lorry collided with each other at Baichkhola on the highway, which left at least 20 people injured.
Of the injured, 13 were taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi Police Station (PS) Md Aminur Rahman confirmed the incident.
LOHAGARA, CHATTOGRAM: A local activist of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal was killed in a road accident in Lohagara Upazila of the district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Md Mahim, 18, son of Nurul Islam, a resident of Rajghata area under Amirabad Union in the upazila.
He died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) at around 7 pm while undergoing treatment.
Earlier, at around 3:30 pm on Friday, Mahim along with his two nieces was heading towards Lohagara riding on a motorcycle. On the way, their motorcycle collided head-on with a covered van on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway, which left the trio critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, and from there they were transferred to CMCH for better treatment, where Mahim succumbed to his injuries.
Dohazari Highway PS OC Suva Ranjan Chakma said that the covered van has been seized in connection with this incident.
Necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
JHENIDAH: A young man was killed in a collision between a motorbike and a tractor in Kaliganj Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the Baliadanga-Shishutala road in Baliadanga area of the upazila at around 4 pm.
The deceased was identified as Rana Hossain, 20, son of Monsur Ali, a resident of Pirojpur Village in the upazila.
According to Kaliganj police, Rana was heading towards Baliadanga Bazaar riding his motorbike when it collided with a sugarcane-laden tractor. The collision was severe and Rana was crushed under the tractor's wheels. He died on the spot.
Fire Service personnel arrived promptly at the scene, recovered the body, and handed it over to the police.
Kaliganj PS OC Shahidul Islam Hawladar confirmed the incident, adding that legal proceedings are underway in this regard and the tractor involved in the accident has been seized.
