Bid bye to dry tongue! On this eve of New Year 2017, I have planned a mouthwatering eatery-hangout with family and friends; but in a classic traditional way. And here pops up the idea of a food-hunting day at the foodie-famous area: Puraan Dhaka (Old Town). Let's surf the zone and pick the most tongue-cherished ones for a homely hangout New Year night.
Two main dishes would be a lifetime miss: one is Kolkata Kachhi, and the other is Shamser Ali'r Bhuna Khichuri. Such exact and exotic mixtures of spices take these at the peak of Bengali culinary art! Eye-balls will get enlarged and tongue will sweat to taste without a hitch. This is not the end foodies! Puraan Dhaka is abundant with such culinary-blessings that one can hardly surf it in day. Who would leave Pesta Badaamer Sharbat after such a royal dine? Now it's time to sip at Royal Restaurant at Lalbagh Pesta-Jafran-badamer Saarbat (unique and renowned juice of Puraan Dhaka). The sarbaat comes with chilled milk laced with crushed almonds and pistachios with a hint of saffron. Moreover, Chicken Tikka and Kashmiri Naan are also tasty-treats to the food-buffs. Dessert-time! Undoubtedly Beauty Lassi & Faluda stands first for their lemon juice, special lassi, and faluda. Being one of the oldest food-shop in Puraan Dhaka, they are still serving freshening drinks and dessert since 1922. A Persian-Mughal influence, the faluda with its cooling basil seeds (tukma) and sago dana (tapioca) and vermicelli added with fruit and ice never leaves the chance to hit the right spots for sweet-cravers. Then comes Bakarkhani, Bengali version of biscuit, which is one of the most famous since Mughal dynasty. Drown it on with tea or milk, or nothing even, they will give a crunchy crispy flavour of Bengal.  Just check-in at Nazimuddin road, near to Nirob Hotel, or at Becharam Deory, you will get plenty stalls to serve you.
