All Private University Muslim Students Welfare Association on Saturday threatened to wage a huge demonstration unless the faction of Tabligh Jamaat that still follows the controversial Indian preacher Maulana Saad Kandlavi supporters "are not arrested within the next 48 hours."
They delivered the ultimatum at a press conference to announce a 4-point demand held at the auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city on Saturday
One of the members of the platform, Musa Md Obayed from United International University, read out the announcement.
Demanding a ban on terrorists, murderers, and extremist Saad supporters by issuing a notification as soon as possible, they also urged in their written speech that the terrorist and murderous Saad supporters must not be allowed to carry out any activities in Bangladesh in the name of Tablighi Jamaat.
They also called on government officials and journalists to refrain from broadcasting the "one-sided attack" on people sleeping in the dark of night by the "terrorist and murderous" Saad supporters on the night of December 17, as a "clash between two sides".
They also demanded enhanced security for the lives of 'the soldiers of the 2024 mass uprising' in Bangladesh, and all those involved in the anti-discrimination movement.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has already banned activities at the Kakrail Mosque in Dhaka for the followers of Maulana Saad Kandlavi, an Indian preacher based at the Tablighi movement's spiritual home in Nizamuddin, Old Delhi.
The government also imposed restrictions on gatherings of the supporters of the other faction of Tabligh Jamaat Maulana Zubair near the mosque.
The order was effective from Friday until further notice, the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a notice issued Thursday.
Earlier on December 18, four people were killed and 40 others were injured in a clash between the two factions at the Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi over control of the venue.
A case was filed in connection with the violent clashes. —UNB
