BNP Vice-Chairman Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad returned to the country after 13 years.
BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan told Daily Observer that Kaikobad landed at Shahjalal International Airport at 11:20am.
Kaikobad was sentenced to life imprisonment in the grenade attack case of August 21, 2004.
On October 10, 2018, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 sentenced 19 people including former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar to death and 19 people including acting Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman were sentenced to life imprisonment and 11 people were sentenced to various terms.
The High Court bench comprising of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain on December 1 overruled the judgment of the judicial court. In the verdict, every accused of the case was acquitted.
Kaikobad was staying outside the country for a long time after the case was filed. On November 12, 2015, an Interpol red notice was issued against this five-time former Member of Parliament of Comilla-3 Constituency.
Following his application, Interpol withdrew the Red Notice on political grounds.
Later, Kaykobad lived in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
