Zia Bin Kashem, a follower of Maulana Saad Kandlavi, has been placed on a two-day remand in a case over the violent clashes between two factions of Tablighi Jamaat at the Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi over control of the venue.

Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-5 Judge Iqbal Hossain passed the order on Sunday after police produced him before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.

As the supporters of Zubair staged demonstrations, demanding punishment of  Zia Bin Kashem, tight security measures have been taken on the court premises, said Gazipur court inspector Md Ahsan Ullah.

Earlier, on Saturday, police arrested  Zia Bin Kashem from Chattogram’s Double Mooring area as he was the number 6 accused in the case filed by Maulana Zubair's follower SM Alam Hossain.
On December 18, four people were killed and 40 others injured in a clash between two factions of Tabligh Jamaat at the Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi.
