The unloading of imported goods resumed from mother vessels anchored at Mongla Ports on Sunday morning as water transport workers called off their strike after nearly 45 hours of work stoppage.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Workers' Federation and Bangladesh Lighterage Workers' Union met with the Director General of the Department of Shipping at his office on Saturday night.
Following the meeting, they announced the withdrawal of their strike.
A spokesperson from the workers federation said that after receiving assurances from the government to meet their demands, water transport workers have called off their strike.
The port authority's traffic department confirmed the matter and said workers have started unloading fertilizer, coal, clinker, and stone from 13 mother vessels.
Earlier, at midnight on Thursday, workers called the strike to press home their four-point demand in response to the killing of seven people on a ship in the Meghna River in Chandpur.
Meanwhile, the strike disrupted goods transportation and unloading on internal waterways, caused a massive backlog of goods, resulting in financial losses.
