SHERPUR, Dec 29: The death toll in Sherpur bus and autorickshaw collision rose to six as one more injured died at a hospital while undergoing treatment. The accident happened on the Sherpur-Mymensingh road.
Quoting the people of the area, police said a Dhaka-bound bus of Rifat Paribahan hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Bhatshala area at about 11:45am on Sunday.
Five people died on the spot and two others were injured. Later critically injured woman succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital.
The deceased were identified as CNG driver Lokman Akmal, 45, a resident of Kamari area of Sherpur Sadar upazila, Maisha Akter Mim, daughter of Shahjahan Ali; Shahjahan Ali's brother Babu, 23; Mokhlesur Rahman, 78; Kulsum, 60; Nina Rani, 45.
On information, police, army and Fire Service members went to the scene and started the rescue operation. The bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital morgue. Police seized the bus, said Sherpur Sadar Hospital OC Jubaidul Alam.
