BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed his condolences on the demise of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, lauding his transformative contributions to economic reforms and regional cooperation.
"Dr. Manmohan Singh's passing marks the end of an era characterized by political integrity, wisdom, and liberalism," Tarique wrote on his verified Facebook page. He described Singh's dedication to economic progress and his vision for fostering regional partnerships as a legacy of excellence.
"My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of India," he added.
Manmohan Singh, a key architect of India’s economic liberalization and a driving force behind the historic nuclear agreement with the United States, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He had been admitted to New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences after a sudden decline in health and lost consciousness at his residence.
Known for his mild demeanor and personal integrity, Singh served as India’s Prime Minister for a decade, from 2004 to 2014. He was handpicked by Sonia Gandhi to lead the Congress Party’s government and successfully secured a second term in 2009.
Singh’s funeral, held on Saturday with state honors, was attended by national and international dignitaries. His legacy as a statesman, economist, and advocate for cooperation across borders continues to be remembered fondly.
