Over 100 shops at Madhaiya bazar in Cumilla's Chandina upazila were burnt down in more than two hours' of massive fire that broke out at 12midnight on Sunday.

Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel managed to brought the blaze under their control around 2:30AM on Monday.

To douse the fire, six fire fighting units from Cumilla, Chandina and Daudkandi were working hard for two-and-a-half-hour, said Cumilla Fire Srvice's assistant director Md Toufiqul Islam.
But the reasone behind the blaze could not be known immediately, he added.

Meanwhile, seeing the fire, the drivers of the vehicles moving on the Dhaka-Chittagobg highway also joined with the firemen and locals, keeping their vehicles on the highway. This caused a huge tailback on both sides.

The vehicular movement became normal after the fire was doused.
