Around 20,000 more single journey tickets have arrived in Dhaka from India in the second phase. These tickets will be provided to all metro stations by Tuesday (December 31).
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) authorities hoped that the crisis will end soon with the supply of new tickets.
To mitigate the shortage of single-journey tickets on the metro rail, the DMTCL has taken the initiative to purchase 4 lakh new tickets. These tickets are jointly provided by Japan, Thailand and India. The main supplier of the tickets is Japan, but the cards are printed from India.
There has been a shortage of single-journey tickets on Uttara to Motijheel route for two months. There are two types of tickets--MRT pass or rapid pass, and single-journey ticket-- for passengers on the metrorail.
Passengers who have purchased a single-journey ticket have to purchase a ticket immediately from the station and travel. It is mandatory to return the ticket when leaving the station after reaching their destination. A total of 268,441 single-journey tickets were issued at the stations when the metrorail was launched. But last October, the DMTCL said that around 2,40,000 single-journey tickets had been lost or damaged.
