The fire that broke out at the Secretariat on December 26 has damaged around 200 rooms across the four floors of building 7.
Public Works Department (PWD) Deputy Assistant Engineer Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan shared the details with journalists on the secretariat premises on Monday afternoon.
He said that there are 40 to 50 rooms on each of the floors which suffered the most damage. Some rooms are completely damaged while some are partially damaged.
He mentioned that the cause of the fire would only be known after the investigation is completed. Mannan said it is possible to repair the building and make it usable again.
He said that law enforcement agencies have not yet handed over the building to the PWD, so they are not clear how long it will take to repair the building. Only after getting the assessment report on damages, they could inform about it.
Earlier, at 1.52AM on December 26, the fire broke out on four floors – six, seven, eight, and nine – of building no. 7. A total of 19 units of firefighters managed to fully douse the flames after nearly 10 hours.
No casualties, however, were reported from the fire itself, but a fire fighter named Shoanur Jaman Nayan from Tejgaon fire station was crashed by a truck while participating in dousing the flame.
