Dear Sir,
Manikganj hospital is facing a critical situation due to a sharp rise in diarrhea cases, especially among children. The hospital's diarrhea unit, designed for 20 beds, is now overwhelmed with 30 to 40 patients daily. Since October, the number of patients has surged, leading to overcrowded conditions where many are treated on the floor. This influx has stretched the resources and capabilities of nurses and doctors, who strive to provide care under challenging conditions.
The lack of essential medicines has further exacerbated the situation, forcing families to procure them from outside. Unhygienic conditions within the ward are a growing concern, potentially increasing health risks. Pediatric specialist Dr. Nilufar Yasmin attributes the rise in cases to rotavirus infections, more prevalent in winter, and urges maintaining hygiene and keeping children warm.
The hospital is taking additional measures to manage the overflow, including transferring patients to other wards, but the need for further support is evident.
