Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, played the role of co-fighter during the anti-fascist movement, Sarjis Alam, one of the top coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said on Tuesday.
"We found the Chhatra Shibir activists directly or indirectly. They played the role of co-fighter during the movement. They played a very important role giving us advice and stay on the street during the movement. We worked together and made plans sitting across the table," Sarjis, also general secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, said. "We want to state it clearly that truth can never be kept hidden. Revealing the truth is just a matter of time."
Sarjis made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of the central members' conference of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
Recognising the role of the student organisation, Sarjis said the activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement fought shoulder-to-shoulder with Shibir activists against the fascist government.
"We think that killer Hasina made impossible for many important individuals and organizations including Islami Chhatra Shibir, to live in this independent country. If we remain united, we will be able to resist all including Sheikh Hasina," he said.
Sarjis said that the day to blame Chhatra Shibir activists for everything has come to an end. fascism is the main enemy of the country and its people and the Shibir activists must be acceptable to all people to build a strong resistance to prevent the recurrence of the fascism.
He further said: "Killer Hasina had indulged in blame games stigmatizing people whoever she felt as potential threats to her government over the last 16 years. We saw many innocent people, alems and ulemas were sent to jail, tortured and killed considering them as potential threats."
Sarjis said: "I want to make it clear that killer Hasina tried to represent many of you in the way the new generation doesn't believe that. Since the present generation is driven by conscience, they have succeeded to oust Sheikh Hasina from power. The present generation doesn't believe in the prescription given by Sheikh Hasina. That is why she has been ousted from the country."
