KISHOREGANJ, Dec 31: Police recovered the body of a missing child from the wardrobe of a neighbour's house of the deceased in Bhairab Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the morning in the house of one Dil Mohammad behind Balaka School in Panchabati area of the upazila town.
Deceased Sahal, 3, was the son of Sanaullah Babu, a Qatar expatriate from Kalikaprasad area of Bhairab Upazila.
Police have arrested Hasan Mia, 38, a tenant of the house, hailed from Ashuganj area, in the incident. In addition, the mother of the deceased child Momena Begum has been detained for questioning.
However, police and locals believe that the murder might have been the result of detained Hasan's extramarital affair with the child's mother.
According to police and locals, the child had been missing since Monday evening when the power went out at their house. Later on, the child's mother filed a general diary with Bhairab Police Station (PS).
After receiving complaint, police searched the scene. At that time, they broke the lock of the neighbouring tenant's room and recovered the child's body with scotch tape wrapped around his face inside the wardrobe in the house.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhairab PS Shahin Mia said, "We went to the scene after receiving a complaint that the child was missing. Based on some clues, we broke the lock of the neighbouring tenant's house and searched and found the child's body in the wardrobe of his house. It is believed that the child's mother Momena Begum is having an extramarital affair with the tenant Hasan Mia. Due to this, the child was held hostage and strangled to death. However, the real reason will be known after the investigation."
