New Year’s Eve: 1,185 complaints filed over noise pollution

A total of 1,185 calls were received on national emergency service number 999 related to noise pollution on New Year’s Eve.

A press release singed by Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of 999, informed this on Wednesday.
Of these, 387 calls came from Dhaka metropolitan area, while 798 calls were from other parts of the country. In each case, 999 notified the respective police stations and efforts were made for necessary action, the release added.

Besides, on Tuesday night, a fire broke out infront of the Swapna Shopping Mall near LabAid at Dhanmondi of Dhaka due to a sky lantern. 

Upon receiving the information, a firefighting team from Mohammadpur fire station was dispatched. But by the time they arrive, local residents had already doused the flame. No damage or loss was reported in the incident, said the media release.

Meanwhile, five individuals, including three children, sustained burn wounds from sky lanterns and firecrackers in the capital while celebrating new year on December 31.
