Former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Khandker Golam Faruque and his wife Sharmin Akter have been barred to leave the country as investigations into the graft allegations against them are going on.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain passed the order on Wednesday allowing a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Assistant director of the ACC Md Rakibul Hayat in the plea mentioned that the anti-graft body is probing allegations of amassing illegal wealth of Tk 3,000 crore and laundering money abroad against the former DMP chief and his wife.

The ACC learned that the accused could take attempt to flee the country to evade justice. In this circumstances travel ban should be imposed against them to make them to stand trial.
