Five people were killed in separate road accidents in four districts -Joypurhat, Pabna, Kushtia and Chattogram.
JOYPURHAT: A local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Sadar Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Guabari Ghat area of the upazila at around 8 am.
The deceased was identified as Delwar Hossain, 35, son of Mafez Uddin, a resident of Chaumuhuni Dandapani Village under the upazila.
He was a member of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila Jamaat's Karma Parishad and the president of the Sadar Upazila unit of Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation.
Local sources said that Delwar Hossain was on his way from the house to Joypurhat Town riding on a motorcycle in the morning. When he reached the area, his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, which left him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station (PS) Shahed Al Mamun confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
PABNA: A teenage boy was killed in a road accident in the district town on Tuesday night.
The accident occurred at around 11 pm in front of Yakub Filling Station in bypass area of the town.
The deceased was identified as Yasin Arafat, 16, son of Milon Hossain. He was a tenth grader at Pabna Ideal Laboratory School and College and was set to sit for the SSC examinations in April.
According to police, Yasin was heading towards the town's terminal riding on his motorcycle from Meril Bypass area. At that time, a truck coming from the opposite direction collided with his motorcycle.
He fell on the road and was critically injured.
Locals then rescued him and rushed to Pabna General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

KUSHTIA: Two passengers were killed when a covered van of a courier service lost control over its steering and overturned in Mirpur Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the Kushtia-Pabna highway in Saheb Nagar area under Bahalbari Union of the upazila at around 5 pm.
The deceased were identified as Bitu Goyen, 30, son of Takkel Pramanik, and Gura Sardar, 75. Both of them were residents of Saheb Nagar Village.
Police and local sources said that the Sunderban Courier Service's freight van, travelling from Kushtia towards Bheramara, lost control over its steering and overturned in the area. As a result, the covered van and its passengers were trapped underneath the vehicle.
Both passengers in the covered van were killed on the spot. The accident caused a significant traffic jam, leading to considerable inconvenience for travellers.
Police and fire service teams arrived at the scene after receiving information and controlled the situation.
Confirming the incident, Chouddahash Highway Police OC Syed Al Mamun said that the bodies have been recovered from the scene and the situation is now under control.
LOHAGARA, CHATTOGRAM: A man was killed and another injured after a truck hit a motorcycle in Lohagara Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sahinul Islam Shoayeb, 24, son of Nazim Uddin, a resident of Uttar Adhunagar in the upazila.
The accident took place at around 2 pm in front of Lohagara Modern Community Centre on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway of the upazila.
It was known that a truck hit a motorcycle carrying two persons in the area at noon, leaving Shoayeb dead on the spot and another injured.
The injured was rescued and taken to a local hospital.
Dohazari Highway PS OC Shuvo Ranjon confirmed the incident.
