The candidates of 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), who were excluded from appointment despite being initially gazette issued in October last year, have demonstrated by organizing an human chain in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Later, they have filed an application with the Public Administration Ministry demanding their appointment. However, the ministry did not officially accept their applications.

Four of the dropped candidates submitted the application on behalf of all of them to the Public Administration Ministry's Senior Secretary's office at around 2:30pm on Wednesday.

The candidates said, adding that no receipt copy was given to them. They also said the ministry's secretary did not meet them.

Earlier on the day, they took positions in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat and formed a human chain demanding their appointment. They were demanding to meet the secretary until 3:30pm.

"I do not know why I was excluded. I had a different job. When the final BCS results were announced, I quit that job. Now I see that I was not appointed. I came here to know why I have been excluded and what I should do next," said Shyamal Kanti, one of the BCS candidates who was excluded from the revised list.

Another excluded candidate, seeking anonymity, said, "We were all included in the first list, why are we being excluded now? It is discriminatory. Why would the government do such discrimination?"

The government on December 30 appointed a total of 1,896 candidates as various cadres in the revised list of the 43rd BCS. Appointed candidates have been directed to report to their assigned offices under respective controlling ministries by January 15.

This update excludes 168 candidates, who were previously recommended by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The revised notification introduced adjustments to several cadre appointments. In the administration cadre, the number of appointed candidates was reduced to 267 from 293 in the initial notification.

Earlier on October 15, the government appointed 2,064 candidates based on PSC's recommendation, nearly ten months after the results were initially published.

The original results of the 43rd BCS were published by the PSC on December 26 last year, recommending 2,805 candidates for recruitment-2,163 for cadre positions and 642 for non-cadre roles.
