A medicine trader was allegedly beaten to death in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila early Thursday.
The incident took place around 2:30 am at Kewa Paschimkhanda under Sreepur upazila.
The victim was Hasibul Islam, 40, hailed from Ipuhar area in Barishal's Banaripara.
Sreepur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Joynal Abedin Mandal said that Hasibul Islam used to live at his in-laws' house in Kewa Paschimkhanda area and sell medicines at a pharmacy. He went to Dhaka with his wife on Wednesday. When they were returning home around 2:30 am, 3-4 teenagers including one Rubel blocked their movement near the house.
Later, they had an argument. At one stage, Hasibul slapped his wife and they started fighting. At that time, the 3/4 people including Rubel beat Hasibul. Hasibul was rescued and taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Two people have been arrested in the incident. The body has been recovered and sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal action is under process in this regard, the OC added.
