Students locked the administration building of Rajshahi University (RU) for an indefinite period to press home their three-point demands, including cancellation of 1 per cent quota staff children.
Two vice-chancellors of the university failed to get out as the protesters locked Sayed Nazrul Islam administration bhaban at 10AM on Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the authorities announced 1 per cent quota for the children of the staff which made the students anger.
However, the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement remain firm on their demand to abolish the ward quota.
"This 1 per cent quota means giving opportunities to the unworthy. It is harmful to the nation. Even then, if you want to keep this quota, you have to keep the quota for the children of the poor people of the country. The administration has reformed the quota system. But we do not want reform of this quota, but its abolition," said Salahuddin Ammar, one of the main coordinators.
The other two demands are-- to bring fascist teachers, students, and officials and employees to justice; and to show cause in public to the vice-chancellor and registrar for appointing two fascist teachers as assistant proctors.
