The age level cricket is the workshop of making future stars and in 2016, Bangladesh U-19 team performed well enough and gave birth to some promising future stars. They sealed the semis of the U-19 World Cup for the first time and played the semis of the U-19 Asia Cup as well. But this year the scenario of the women's cricket is below par. They only won one International match out of 10 they played throughout the year while two matches were abandoned.

Under-19
This year the U-19 National team played 11 youth ODI where they won eight matches and lost only three matches.
The team started their journey with the U-19 World Cup in January in Bangladesh. It was the eleventh edition of U-19 World Cup and for the second time in Bangladesh after 2004.
In the first match the junior Tigers faced South Africa and beat them by 43 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first. Nazmul Hossian Shanto led the side with 73 runs while Pinak and Joyraz added 43 and 46 runs respectively to post a total of 240 runs in 50 overs for five wickets. Following that Miraz and Saifuddin picked three wickets each to seal the 43 runs' victory.
Bangladesh U-19 faced Scotland in the next match and picked up a huge 114 runs victory at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox's Bazar. Shanto shone with the bat again and scored a unbeaten 113 while Miraz hit a fifty (51) to set up a target of 257 runs. Opener Saif Hasan unfortunately missed his fifty for one run. Then Saleh Ahmed Shawon and Saifuddin hauled three wickets each to book the victory.
The next match was against Namibia, Miraz, Shawon and Ariful hauled two wickets each to pack Namibia for only 65 runs. Chasing the target, Bangladesh sailed the victory losing two wickets. With the victory Bangladesh made the quarter final of the tournament.
In the quarterfinal Bangladesh faced Nepal at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on February 5.
Opted to bat first, Nepal posted 211 runs for nine wickets in 50 overs. In reply, Zakir Hossain and skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz led the junior Tigers scoring unbeaten 75 and 55 runs to sail into the semis for the first time.
But in the semis, Tigers lost to West Indies, who emerged champion, by three wickets. Electing to bat first, junior Tigers posted a moderate total of 226 for all riding on the willow of Mehedi Hassan Miraz who made 60 runs.
But the Caribbean youths chased the target and made the final.
However, though the junior failed to make the final, the skipper Miraz was named as the player of the tournament.
Following the tournament the bunch of juniors including Miraz, Shanto, Saifuddin, Pinak become senior and completed their age level cricket. Miraz already made his Test debut and led the Tigers from front to beat England in a Test taking 12 wickets in that match.
After that the juniors participated in U-19 Asia Cup, held in Sri Lanka from 15 to 23 December 2016 with a new captain, Saif Hasan. Like the World Cup, in the Asia Cup they were outplayed from the semi-final.
In the group level matches Bangladesh U-19 beat Afghanistan by four wickets and Singapore by seven wickets with 270 balls to spare. Though the Junior Tigers lost the last group match against Pakistan by one wickets they qualified for the semis.
In the semis they faced the host Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium. Batting first Bangladesh could score 194 runs for all. In pursuit, the junior Lions made 106 for two wickets in 27.1 overs before rain forced the match to be stopped and Sri Lanka made the final winning the match by 26 runs (D/L) method.
Overall, the U-19 team passed the year 2016 well enough. The U-19 level this year gave birth to some promising starts like Miraz, Shanto, Pink and Saifuddin who have the potentiality to serve the national side for a long time.
