BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Thursday, "I want to ask an Islamist political party what was its  role in 1971 and in which sector it fought under which   commander?"

Speaking with reporters after honouring  the family of ICC Men's U19 Asia Cup 2024 cricketer Iqbal Hossain on behalf of the Amra BNP Paribar he said, "One political party claimed that only they and the Bangladesh Army are patriotic. The army is undoubtedly patriotic because their predecessors fought for independence and played a significant role in the mass uprising of '24."
Rizvi said, "I want to ask the Islamist political party what was its political role  in 1971. In which sector  you fought, under which sector commander? The  claim that only one political party is patriotic will create confusion and people will laugh at it."

He criticised the government for not ensuring justice to BNP leaders and activists who were killed or became victims of enforeceddisappearance
Rizvi highlighted BNP's 15-and-a-half-year movement for restoration of  democracy and questioning the government's commitment to ensure justice to victims of political violence.

Rizvi praised the inclusion of chapters on leaders like Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, Maulana Bhashani and Hussein Shaheed Suhrawardy but expressed disappointment over the exclusion of  the chapter on the Liberation War.

He said, "It is essential to have a complete history of our struggle for freedom. The government should  properly document Liberation War's legacy in school books.
