Three people were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Chattogram, Gazipur and Barguna.
CHATTOGRAM: A local leader of BNP was stabbed to death reportedly by miscreants in front of the residence in Sitakunda of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Mir Arman Hossain, 48, a resident of Jungle Salimpur and former forest and environment affair secretary of Salimpur Union unit of BNP.
Quoting locals, Fauzdarhat Police Outpost Inspector Sohel Rana said that Arman came out of his residence and was talking with someone over mobile phone at around 7 pm. At that time, some unidentified miscreants stabbed him. Later on, police recovered his body at around 9 pm. Police suspected that Arman might have been killed over establishing supremacy in the area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station (PS) Md Mojibur Rahman said that the law enforcers are trying to nab those involved in the murder.
SREEPUR, GAZIPUR: A man was killed by a juvenile group inside his house in Sreepur Upazila of the district early Thursday as he protested against harassment of his wife. The incident took place at Kewa Paschimkhanda at around 2:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Hasibul Islam, 40, hailed from Ipuhar area in Banaripara Upazila of Barishal. He was a pharmacy owner at Mosjid Mor area under Sreepur Municipality.
Sreepur Model PS OC Joynal Abedin Mandal said that Hasibul Islam used to live at his in-laws' house in Kewa Paschimkhanda area and sell medicines at a pharmacy. He went to Dhaka with his wife on Wednesday.
When they were returning home at around 2:30 am, three to four teenagers including one Rubel surrounded the private car of Hasibul when he was parking the vehicle near his house.
The youths were in drunken condition. They harassed Hasibul's wife and sister-in-law who were trying to enter home after getting down from the car.
The gang members also touched them. At one stage, they managed to enter the house and locked the gate immediately. Out of anger, the youths entered the house breaking the door open and hit Hasibul with a big brick on his head and chest, leaving him critically injured.
Injured Hasibul was then rescued and taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. However, two people were arrested in this connection and legal action would be taken, the OC added.
PATHARGHATA, BARGUNA: A former leader of Jubodal was hacked to death while returning in-laws' house from the founding anniversary of Chatradal in Patharghata Upazila of the district.
A murder case was filed with Patharghata PS on Thursday in this connection.
The incident occurred in Kalmegha Nuria area of the upazila on Wednesday.
Deceased Nasir Uddin, 32, son of Md Shahjahan, was a resident of Ward No. 9 under Patharghata municipality.
According to local sources, the incident took place after Nasir attended a series of events organized by the Patharghata Upazila Chatradal to mark the student organization's founding anniversary.
After the events, Nasir was on his way to his in-laws' house in Gutabacha area of Kalmegah. On his way, two assailants, reportedly with a history of personal enmity, brutally hacked Nasir with machetes before fleeing the scene.
Locals then rescued severely injured Nasir and rushed him to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it Barguna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The deceased's sister Rumi Akhter, being the plaintiff, lodged a murder case with Patharghata PS accusing eight people on Thursday.
The accused are: Isa Ruhullahu, 38, Kaiyum, 24, Abdus Salam Munshi, 55, Hasan, 25, Ibrahim, 19, Abu Sayeed, 23, Rabbi, 19, and Rabbi's father Mahbub, 52. All of them are involved in the politics of Jamaat-Shibir.
Of them, police, however, arrested Mahbub.
