Gopalganj, Jan 3: On the first day of the new year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a drive at the Gopalganj District Council office, investigating allegations of financial irregularities and project mismanagement.
A team led by Deputy Director of the District ACC Md Mashiur Rahman carried out the operation following complaints of embezzlement relating to multiple infrastructure projects.
District Council officials and contractors have been accused of embezzling the full payment for three bridges and three HBB (brick-laid) roads intended to connect Maijkandi and Arkandi villages in Orakandi Union, Kashiani Upazila.
While the bridges were constructed, the connecting roads remain incomplete, causing severe inconvenience for the local population.
Residents of the area have suffered for nine years due to the lack of accessible roads. In one tragic incident, a day-labourer, Murad Talukder, lost his leg while attempting to cross one of the incomplete bridges.
