Six village people at Amtali live in risk as soil of flood control dam goes to brickfield

AMTALI, BARGUNA, Jan 3:  People of six villages are in risk due to a damaged flood control embankment in Kolagachhia Village in Amtali Upazila of the district.

The dam has been harmed by cutting its county-site soil for starting a brickfield, Messrs MAB adjacent to the flood control dam. Due to its soil cutting, the dam has been deplorable.

Locals said, people of Kolagachhia, Horidrabaria, Club, Maddya Kolagachhia, Doachara, and Sholohawladar villages of Gulishakhali Union will have to experience greater consequences if natural tidal surge causes breaking to the dam; and then both men and animals will be affected due to water entry into localities.

They demanded repairing the damaged portion soon and bringing the responsible under law.

Also, the brickfield is burning wood in brick manufacturing, threatening the local environment.

No. 2 Ward BNP-Gulishakhali Union President Razzak Peda said, "Due to cutting the dam soil, we are living in risk."
He demanded legal action against those who are doing this.   
 
Gulishakhali Union Chairman Adv HM Monirul Islam Moni said, people of six villages have been in risk due to soil cutting of the flood protection dam; localities will go under water if there is natural disaster.

When contacted,  MAB Brickfield Owner Nashir Shikdar refused the soil cutting of the dam. He said, "We piled soil on the dam, and now it is being cut."   
       
Assistant Engineer of the Water Development Board (WDB)-Barguna Md Azizul Haq Sujan said, "I am not informed of the matter. After inquiry, necessary measures will be taken."  

Amtali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Ashraful Alam said, no way soil of the  flood protection dam can be cut away; if anybody does, legal action will be taken against him.

WDB Executive Engineer Md Rakib said, by sending men there, rapid action will be taken.
