Six activists of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been arrested after they brought out a surprise procession in Netrokona district.
Additional Police Super (Special Branch) Md Lutfar Rahman, spokesperson of Netrokona District Police, said on Friday (January 3).
The arrested were former vice president of District BCL Chinmoy Sarker, 27, assistant sports secretary Sandip Sarker, 25, member Sinda Banik Bishal, 25, Loman Hossain, 28, former information and research secretary of Poura Chhatra League Joy Saha, 25, and member Rahul Roy, 24.
Additional Police Super (Special Branch) Md Lutfar Rahman said 10 to 15 leaders and workers of the banned organization BCL brought out a surprise procession in the district town early Friday morning. The procession was going toward Shaheed Mina from Teri Bazar. Receiving information, a patrol team of Model Police Station went to the spot and the processionists were dispersed. They later fled away from there. After examining the video footage and collecting information locally, police arrested six people. Police have also been conducting raids to arrest others.
Md Lutfar Rahman said being the members of banned organization, they brought out the procession as part of their conspiracy against the present government and creating anarchy and destroying the communal harmony. Because of it, a case has been filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act. After showing them arrested in the case, they would be sent to court on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, in protest against the Chhatra League's procession, Netrakona Nagorik Committee also brought a procession in Netrakona town in the afternoon. The procession starting from the Central Shaheed Minar paraded different roads.
