Thirteen districts in Bangladesh are currently experiencing a cold wave, but the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) says that the chill will ease a bit over the next few days as temperatures rise.

Meteorologist in BMD said that, "It is not possible to say whether the cold wave will ease, but the temperature will increase slightly. As a result, the cold will decrease for a few days."
The BMD's regular bulletin on Friday reported that a mild cold wave is blowing over the Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Naogaon, and Kushtia districts, as well as the Rangpur Division. The lowest temperature in the country on that day was 8.3 degrees Celsius, recorded in Panchagarh's Tentulia.

The BMD's long-term forecast for January indicates that the country may experience one to three mild to moderate cold waves and one to two severe cold waves during the month.

A cold wave begins when the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius over a significant area. When temperatures are between 8-10 degrees Celsius, it is considered a mild cold wave. Temperatures between 6-8 degrees Celsius constitute a moderate cold wave, and a severe cold wave occurs when the temperature drops below 6 degrees Celsius.

The BMD forecast suggests that temperatures will increase over the 24 hours from 9am on Friday. Night temperatures across the country may increase slightly, and day temperatures in the western part of the country may rise by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius. In other parts of the country, temperatures are likely to remain unchanged. Due to dense fog, it may feel chillier in some areas during the day.

The weather forecast also predicts that moderate to dense fog may occur across the country from midnight to the morning and may persist in some places until noon. Dense fog may temporarily disrupt air traffic, inland river transport, and road communication.
