5 magnitude earthquake jolts capital, parts of country

Dhaka and other parts of the country have experienced an earthquake that registered as a magnitude 5 on the Richter scale.

Iqbal Ahmed, an official at the Bangladesh Meteorological Depart-ment's Earthquake Monitoring Centre, said the quake was recorded at 10:32am on Friday.
    
The centre of the quake was in Myanmar, 482 km northeast of Dhaka.

On Dec 2, Dhaka and other parts of the country had experienced a magnitude 5.6 quake. It also recorded a magnitude 5.4 quake in October.

Narsingdi saw a magnitude 4 quake on Sept 17, which was felt in Dhaka and nearby regions. There was a magnitude 5.5 quake near the Bangladesh-India border in Sylhet on Aug 14.    —bdnews24.com
