Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) will sell eggs, poultry, and other agricultural products at fair prices at 100 locations in Dhaka ahead of Ramadan.
BPA President Suman Hawlader announced the initiative at a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday.
He said as part of a smart market management system for Ramadan, they will start selling eggs, frozen poultry, and other agricultural products at fair prices from January 12 at 20 locations in Dhaka. He said gradually it will be expanded to100 points.
BPA president said that corporate companies make an additional Tk 6,000 crore annually by selling feed and poultry chicks at inflated prices. Their control over the market keeps egg and poultry prices high, and which are responsible for a syndicate that cannot be dismantled, he added.
Through global feed prices have decreased, the local market has not followed the trend and is impacting poultry prices. So, he urged policymakers to include small-scale farmers in decision-making meetings.
Through this press conference, the association presented a 10-point demand to the government to protect small-scale farmers from syndicates and ensure fair market practices.
Meanwhile, despite government intervention to restrict prices, the market did not stabilize. However, in November, the situation relieve a little bit after government permitted to import 180 million eggs.
But in the beginning of new year, the egg prices have risen by Tk 5 per dozen, so, BPA took the initiative.
