Police arrested a lolcal Awami League leader of Karnaphuli upazila in Chittagong district on Friday night.
The arrested man is Nazim Uddin Haider, joint secretary of the upazila unit AL.
He was arrested at around 8:30PM from Dangarchar area in the upazila.
Acting on a tip off, a team of police conducted a raid in the area while he was trying to flee from a secret meeting with his cohorts, said Muhammad Sharif, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station.
Nazim Uddin, former acting president of the upazila Jubo League who had been fugitive was implicated in a case filed with Karnaphuli police station for his involvement in an attack on a rally of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in new market area under Kotwali police station on August 4 last year.
He was handed over to Kotwali Police Station on Saturday, the OC added.
