Elderly couple crushed under train in Tangail

A elderly couple was crushed under the wheels of a train while they were trying to cross a rail track near Dhalatong No-5 Bridge in Kalihati upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased were Nilkanta Mandal, 60, and his wife Rani Mandal, 55, residents of the same area.

Quoting the family members of the deceased, Sahin Miah, station master of Jamuna Bridge Purba Ibrahimabad Railway Station, said that the couple was returning home from a religious programme at Rouha village of the upazila.

He said they suspected that the accident might have occurred when a train hit the couple while they were crossing the railway line.

They died on the spot, he said adding that the bodies were recovered from the area early on Saturday morning.
