Police have arrested eight members of the Juba League and banned Chattra League leaders and activists from separate upazilas in Lalmonirhat district in connection with a case filed over an attack on a makeshift BNP office on October 29, 2023.
Police arrested five BCL leaders from Hatibandha upazila and two from Patgram upazila, while a Juba league leader was arrested under Sadar upazila.
The arrested men are Saidul Islam Jibon, Sifat Hossain, Rumon Miah, Babu, Samirul Islam Basi, Rawsan Ali, and Rashidul Islam Shimul.
Earlier, on October 29, 2023, the makeshift office of the BNP was vandalized by Awami League leaders and activists.
On January 2, 2025, local BNP leader Afzal Hossain filed a case against around 300 people, including 69 named individuals, with the Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident.
Mahmud Nabi and Abdul Kader, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha and Sadar Police Stations respectively, confirmed the matter.
