Police arrested a fugitive accused, who was sentenced to death in a case filed murdering a teenage girl Beena after gang rape in Sherpur district, from the city's Kawran Bazar area on Saturday.
The arrested accused is Md. Aman Ullah, 26, son of late Fazal Haque, hailed Sherpur district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) conducted a raid in the area and arrested him at around 1:05PM.
The information was provided through a press release by DMP.
According to the case details, on July 19, 2016, Aman Ullah along with other accused raped and killed a schoolgirl Kishori Beena in Sherpur and dumped her body in a nearby pond.
Following this incident, a murder case was filed under the Prevention of Repression of Women and Children Act 2000 with Jhenaigati Police Station against six people.
On September 27, 2018, Additional District and Sessions Judge Court, Sherpur, awarded death sentences against the detained accused Md. Aman Ullah and three
others.
After the Awami League (AL) government was dislodged in face of the anti-discrimination students' movement, Aman Ullah escaped from the Kashimpur High Security Prison on August 6 in 2024.
