NARAYANGANJ, Jan 4: A member of an inter-district robbers' gang was beaten to death by mob in Araihazar Upazila of the district early Saturday.
The incident took place in Jogardia area under Mahmudpur Union of the upazila at around 1:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Mukul, 45.
Police sources said that a group of seven to eight robbers were taking preparation for committing a robbery in Jogardia area at night. Sensing the matter, local people chased them.
All of the robbers managed to flee but Mukul was caught by the locals at that time. The locals then started beating him mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
It was known that Mukul was a member of an inter-district robbers' gang and there are several cases filed against him with different police stations (PS).
Officer-in-Charge of Araihazar PS Enayet Hossain confirmed the incident.
