A tragic train accident claimed the lives of a couple near Dhalatong No-5 Bridge in Kalihati Upazila, Tangail, on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Nilu Mandol, 60, and his wife Kalpona Rani Mandol, 50, both residents of the area.
According to Shahin Miah, Station Master of Jamuna Bridge Purba Ibrahimabad Railway Station, the accident occurred while the couple was crossing the railway line. "They were struck by a train and died on the spot," he said.
The couple had been returning home from a religious programme at Rouha Village in the upazila when the incident took place.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident to determine if additional safety measures are needed in the area. The tragedy has cast a pall of sadness over the local community.
