BARISHAL , Jan 4: In the last year, about 9,000 dengue patients including women and children were admitted to government hospitals in the district while 64 died.

Though the number of dengue patient admission decreased in December, nine ones died in hospitals.

In November, admitted dengue patients were 2,541, but in December, the number decreased to 872.

According to doctor sources, beyond the government hospitals, more than four times of dengue patients were treated in private hospitals and clinics. And numerous men, women and children died.

In other years in Barishal region, the dengue outburst decreased in September-end, but in the last year, 2024 it increased in October even, with over 2,500 admitted into govt hospitals, while 17 died. The dengue surge continued till November.

At present, concern of general people, physicians, health officials and health workers is spreading elsewhere.

In tackling the dengue situation, Barishal City Corporation and local government departments did not take effective control steps. Due to this failure, after rainy season, autumn and dry season, the dengue panic is spreading in the winter season.
Compared to city's situation, dengue incidents are higher in villages.

Of the government estimated 64 deaths, most were reported in village areas.
