Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan has announced the formation of a special committee dedicated to facilitating the Dhaka University Central Students' Union, or DUCSU, elections.
"DUCSU is our commitment. We are working in a systematic manner. A committee has been set up for DUCSU, which will consult all stakeholders and submit recommendations.
Based on those recommendations, the university administration will organise a festive DUCSU election," he said while speaking to reporters after inspecting the Fine Arts Unit undergraduate admission test centre for the 2024-25 academic year on Saturday morning.
The issue gained prominence after the Anti-discrimination Student Movement issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the vice-chancellor, demanding a roadmap for the DUCSU elections.
The group also warned of tough programmes if their demand was not met swiftly.
The vice-chancellor emphasised the administration's commitment to conducting the election in a festive and inclusive environment.
This year, 6,093 students competed for 130 seats in the Fine Arts Unit undergraduate programme, with 45 candidates vying for each seat.
The test comprised a 40-mark multiple-choice segment and a 60-mark drawing examination. The total evaluation score is based on 120 marks, including 100 marks from the admission test and 20 marks from students' results in their Secondary School Certificate or equivalent and Higher Secondary Certificate or equivalent exams. —bdnews24.com
